Dr. Toy’s Best Smart Play/Smart
Toys Product of Excellence Awards Program 2006 for
TOSS THE TAGGIES™
Have you ever noticed how babies are
often more interested in the tag on the blanket than the actual
blanket? Two enterprising moms did, and then created a product
line that babies love.” – ePregnancy Magazine
SPENCER, Mass. (May 4) –Acclaimed children’s
product manufacturer Taggies, Inc. has, for the
second year in a row, been named a winner in the prestigious Dr. Toy’s Smart
Play/Smart Toys Product of Excellence Awards
Program. The Spencer, Massachusetts company is honored
in 2006 for Toss the Taggie®. This award
is the most recent in a string of honors for Taggies, Inc., which
has also won two previous Dr. Toy Awards, an Oppenheim
Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award, five
iParenting Media Awards, and four Parent to Parent
Adding Wisdom Awards for itsinnovative
products.
Toss the Taggie® is a “new twist” on
the classic soft, textured chime ball for infants and toddlers: Approximately
8 inches in diameter, the Toss the Taggie® ball
is adorned with loads of multi-colored, multi-textured tags that
babies and children love to rub.
Dr. Toy’s Smart Play/Smart Toys Products of Excellence
Awards Program was developed by noted child development
authority Stevanne Auerbach, Ph.D. (a.k.a. Dr. Toy)
as a service to consumers who desire to purchase safe, affordable,
educationally-oriented, and stimulating toys and products for
children. Dr. Toy’s Smart Play/Smart Toys award-winners are
carefully chosen from among hundreds of products that Dr.
Toy has reviewed, using extensive criteria developed
during more than 35 years of experience evaluating, writing and
speaking about toys and children’s products. The winning
products are affordable, well designed, and reflect the wide
range of children’s interests. They meet Dr. Toy’s high
standards and offer the child something “extra” for
optimal learning, play, and fun.
“Children learn best through play,” says Dr.
Toy, Director of the Institute for Childhood
Resources, founded in San Francisco in 1975, “and
these ‘Smart Toys and Smart Products’ encourage children
to maximize their potentials and to make the most of ‘Smart
Play.’”
Taggies came into being just over six years ago
when new mom and early-childhood educator Julie Dix observed
that her baby was more interested in the tags on toys and blankets
than the items themselves. She then teamed up with fellow
mom Danielle Ayotte to create colorful fleece
blankets edged all around with small, satiny tags. The company’s
patented licensed and core product line has expanded in the past
six years to include chime balls, educational, travel, and plush
toys, booties, crib sets, and several blanket types and sizes,
in addition to Scholastic Publications’ soft-cover "My
First Taggies® Book” series and hard-cover “My
First Taggies® Book” nursery rhyme series, all brightly
colored and adorned with plenty of the small, smooth tags that
soothe little ones like nothing else.
Taggies products are sold at more than 4,500
independent specialty shops in the United States, Canada, the United
Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, and through more
than a dozen catalogs, including RedEnvelope and Lillian Vernon. “My
First Taggies®” books are sold at Wal-Mart, Target, Borders,
Barnes & Noble and other mass marketers. Taggies products may
also be ordered online at www.taggies.com and by phone at 1-877-4-TAGGIE.
